The name that you use now may be abbreviated, a married name, a New Age name, or a middle name that has been switched to your first name and written on checks as the first of two names. It can be these and many more.

In casting a chart, it is useful to see what you had to start out with and how that pattern is being directed now into a secondary name. In numerology, the birth name never goes away. It always is the first baseline coordinate. Any adjustment in the name creates an adjustment in the basic pattern. This adjustment can enhance the skills and focus implied in the birth name, or it can complicate and confuse an otherwise clear and set course through life.

Start with the first full birth name, which you can think of as the first floor. Next, do the name you use now, the second floor. When doing a chart on a friend, just the current name is usually enough to get a feel for the person. If, however, this is someone who for whatever reason is important to you, start with the birth name and then do the now-used name.

For instance, let’s say that your chart’s birth-name soul essence is 8, and your current-name soul essence is 5. You have a chart here with a lot of basic soul power, and the adjusted root number will be directing the 8 to expression. The person will be either a great force to reckon with wherever they go–which will be many places–or a person who has a lot of unfocused restlessness. The general rule of thumb is clear and simple. Stay with your birth name, and sign your checks using the full name.
